| “The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed"- Dana Perino, Whitehouse Spokeswoman As I watched the events unfold today at Virginia Tech, I wonder how we as a nation let this happen again. I though to the various things that the media has blamed, violent video games, pornography, lax gun control laws and I thought to myself, why since the years of Columbine have we not taken heed to these messages? As I saw pictures of bloody students being carried away I was filled with not only sadness but anger. Anger at our government, anger at the gunman, anger at his parents, anger… so much bitterness and so much sadness.
I believe we as a nation have forgotten. How many children need to die before we make some changes? I am not here today to attack Conservatives, I am here to attack every legislator Conservative or Liberal who stood in the way of making violent video games harder to get, who stood in the way of limiting a child’s access to pornography, who stood in the way of making tougher gun control laws. I condemn all these individuals and put the blood of those murdered on not only the gunman’s hands but that of those legislators who have failed to protect our children.
There is nothing partisan about doing the right thing. There was nothing right when the Senate failed to pass Family Entertainment Protection Act (FEPA) and there was nothing right when George W. Bush quietly let the ban on assault rifles expire. At the expense of pleasing do-goody Liberals who wanted to preserve the “Constitutional Rights” of smut peddlers, at the expense of gun toting Conservative whack jobs who wanted to impress their friends with their gun collection, we have sold out our children and we have sold out this nation.
It seemed as though Whitehouse Spokeswoman Perino was attempting to mitigate any blame against Bush’s stance against gun control by reiterating that he believes in the 2nd Amendment. There should be no reason that that issue was brought up. The 2nd Amendment, like any amendment is sacred to this nation but for us to be blinded by that, is in essence to allow the senseless murder of innocents. Gun control, violent video game control, and pornography control should not be partisan issues, they should be American issues.
We must stand together and fight those legistlators who’s priorities are appeasing their constituents and instead we should support those who vote because of their concious and convictions.
We need to protect our children, we owe it to the victims of Virginia Tech, we owe it to the victims in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and we owe it to the victims of Jefferson County, Colorado, we owe it to our very children.
That we as Americans must unite under this tragedy and work together to declare once and for all:
We will not sell out our children.

| First off, I¡¦d like to say I¡¦m back after an extended break, I guess fittingly, my first post will be about Illegal Immigration.
Before you read this I¡¦d like to point out a few things, I¡¦m a Liberal/Democrat, a second-generation immigrant; and consider myself very patriotic.
That being said the first statement I will make is that I do not condone changing the Star Spangled Banner to Spanish, I do not condone the May 1 protests, and I do not condone illegal immigrants. Immigration itself is a cornerstone of our society and the single most important factor in our diversity and success. From the 1800¡¦s until today, legal immigrants have come to this country seeking better education and standard of living. This being said, I can see why illegal immigrants want to come to our country so badly, compared to Mexico, our employment and income levels are an irresistible offer. However, as much as I may sympathize with their plight, as an American I know the headaches and problems undocumented aliens may bring. For instance 95% of all warrants issued for homicide in the city of Los Angeles target illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are also targeted (illegally) by big companies who exploit their inability to report wage abuse. Taking that into effect, American companies that exploit illegal aliens must also be prosecuted. Our interest rates, houses, and taxes all increase as a result of undocumented aliens. Our education system is also affected, a coworkers wife who works for a local Kindergarten in Los Angeles was suddenly perplexed to find that 300 additional students had been enrolled, not only did these students not understand English they also did not understand Spanish. A problem that is sure to detract from the learning process of our children.
Another pet peeve I have with this entire immigration debate is a justification some radical protesters use in stating that California, Texas, and Arizona belong to Mexico. First of all, if California, Arizona and Texas were part of Mexico, I think those exact same radical protesters would be trying to get into Utah and Nevada. They do have the right to protest, but if they do protest they should be stating how wonderful America is and how they wish to be a part of us. Not demand that we give them what they think they deserve. If they want to be in this country, ask for it, don¡¦t demand it. Again, what I say above only accounts for a small amount of radical protesters, I know most immigrants want to be here because they acknowledge America is better than their home country. All in all, while I can clearly see why illegal immigrants are fighting so hard to stay in this country, my beliefs as an American dictate that I must agree with legislators that are proposing the granting of green cards to a select few and deserving illegal immigrants and that the rest be deported.
Furthermore I am also in favor of a military presence along our borders. As Article IV, Section Four of the United States Constitution states, ¡§[The federal government] shall protect all states against invasion and domestic violence.¡¨ If terrorists or illegal immigrants are to slip through our border undetected than the federal government has failed us. Not only to prevent illegal immigrants from entering our nation but also to guard us against a potential terrorist threat. A military presence along our border is essential to providing stability and safety to our nation. Therefore I encourage all of you who read my post to vote for legislators that demand an immigration overhaul.
